Recent development in studies of
neurons, neural networks and cognitive behaviours indicates crucial roles of
their dynamical properties in representation of information in the brain.
Over the last few years evidence indicates that the brain is operating
either at, or in the vicinity, of a critical state. However, very little is
known about that consequences of these observations. Why is criticality
important for the brain? Can we relate functionality to degree of
criticality? Are there conditions under which the brains is significantly
far from a critical state? Our workshop will try to address these complex
questions gathering together researchers coming from different fields,
neuroscience, physics, neurophysiology. We aim to promote a relaxed
atmosphere which will encourage informal interactions between all
participants and hopefully will lead to new professional relationships which
will last beyond the workshop.
